Our Approach
Our goal is to build the complete athlete. For that to be achieved, and to come to fruition, we need to understand all of the building blocks that come into play. We need to understand how an athlete moves, how an athlete perceives movement, the athlete’s background, the athlete’s perception of his or her surroundings and the lifestyle they lead. There are many roads that lead to Rome. People are unique and that uniqueness must be harnessed, understood and worked with. Through our pillars of Movement Strategies, Forces, Neural Plasticity, Nutrition, Lifestyle and Mental toughness, we develop the complete athlete.
- Movement: This is what we assess first. We want to see you move! We want to see you move in your element (Sport), in your sports practices, under pressure, with no pressure and in the gym. This allows us to better understand the athlete we are working with. It allows us to see the habits you have developed: both positive and negative. When we look at your movement, we look at how you sequence throughout your body, we assess where you initiate your movement from, and we assess inefficiencies in your strategies.
- Forces: Once we have a grasp on your movement strategies, we assess your ability to exert forces through those strategies. We look for deficiencies in your power output in lower and upper extremity movements. We assess you in your sport, and we run you through a battery of tests to gauge your abilities better.
- Neural Plasticity: Through assessing your background, your movement strategies, your force outputs and strategies, we then gradually develop programs to better understand and work with your ability to learn and change. We continually track and test your progress within your sport to see where transfer is occurring and where we need to improve further, or change our current plan.
- Nutrition: These are your building blocks. If we are not supplementing correctly for the work we are putting in, all that work will come to nothing. Proper nutrition allows us to build better, faster and more precisely. We provide our athletes with basic guidelines and knowledge in this arena and provide access and guidance via certified dieticians and nutritionists.
- Lifestyle: Our program takes into account all aspects of your life. We track the amount of hours you sleep, the quality of those hours and the sleep hygiene you follow. We assess your daily habits, your schooling, work, etc. When we develop your program, we plan around your life and with your well-being in mind. We understand that a program can look amazing on paper;however, it can be absolutely useless if applied under the wrong circumstances. Your recovery must match your output.
- Mental Toughness: “Fatigue makes cowards of us all.” Whether it’s George Patton (war general) or Vince Lombardi (football coach) saying this, the meaning is timeless and essential to the success of any athlete. It is as important to strengthen your mind as it is to strengthen your body. At ASSET, we work with the philosophy that it is that body-mind connection that allows the athlete to outperform even their own expectations.
